Brew & View at The Vic
Somewhere between oh, about the ages of 25 and 30, I somehow managed to forget about one of Chicago’s underrated treats — Brew & View at The Vic Theater. And I don’t know exactly when I’ll forgive myself.
Catching “Office Space” and “Little Miss Sunshine” on a random Wednesday night for $5 with $2 Miller Lite drafts, like I did last week, is good work. Think about it: You get two movies (either classics, cult favorites or second-run options that you recently missed at the cinema) played back-to-back starting at 8 p.m. in a classic venue with $2 beers.
Movie tandems typically run from Sunday through Thursday (and sometimes Friday, depending on the concert schedule) and last around two weeks. Borat and Tenacious D start Friday, Jan. 19.
For the weekly schedule, check out www.brewview.com.

Fish fry at the Duke of Perth
So it’s Friday night, and you’ve had your fill of pizza, cashew chicken and burgers but don’t feel like cooking
something at home, either. That was how I felt a few weeks ago when I happened across the Duke of Perth at 2913 N. Clark.
With the look and feel of an authentic Scottish pub, the Duke of Perth is already different than most Lincoln Park and Wrigleyville bars. Then add in the best fish fry I’ve had in quite awhile, and it’s a guarantee I’ll be back.
The fish is beer-battered, but it’s light and flaky, not soaked in grease like you’ll see in a lot of other places. All-you-can-eat for $9.25 on Wednesdays and Fridays, complete with seasoned fries (chips) and peas. And the variety of exotic beers from Scotland and England is a perfect finishing touch.
