What I’ve learned

Living in Chicago, this is What I’ve Learned...

I was thinking, the walk from the bowling lane line back to the chairs is one of the more awkward walks in life. I don’t think anybody really knows how to perform it with charisma and cool.
— Scott Graham

Having a dog in the city opens up many doors to meeting new people, and it is amazing how few of your neighbors you really know until you take that pooch out every day.
— Jesse Alejos

Chicago is the only town in the world where reports of bad weather are underestimated by the news media. In most towns, 1-2 inches of snow amounts to a light dusting. In Chicago, 1-2 inches of snow indicates 1-2 days of snow. What the hell?
— Brian Lipman

For those of you who are yuppie professionals working downtown and use a backpack to carry your daily goods and supplies, don’t be intimidated by your friends, co-workers or family members who insist that you grow up and get a “real bag.” Backpacks are nicer to your body than shoulder strap cases, you can run a lot faster toward the departing bus/train that you’re late for and you always have two free hands to pay bus fare, double-fist at the local bar after work or fend off an attacker who wants to steal your perfect backpack.
— Dan Miller

The “Second City” is a misnomer. Chicago is the best city in the world.
— Brenna Ehrlich

I’ve learned that the must-have footwear for happy Chicago living is a really cute pair of rubber galoshes. My black-and-white polka dot boots keep my feet warm and dry in rain, sleet and snow. And the compliments I receive about them keep those dreary days bright!
— Anna Maltby

Slush is the absolute worst part of winter.
— Rachel Johnson

If you have kids age eight and younger, they probably don’t belong in a bowling alley at 11 p.m. on a Monday night. Have some fricking common sense, people.

Need a good realtor? Look no further than Nancy Finley at Keller Wiliams. She provides top-notch customer service and has tremendous experience in the Chicago market.
— Mark Schwalenberg

Dorado on Foster just east of Western is a little-known but outstanding BYOB restaurant. The menu is a blend of Mexican food, with a heavy infuence on French traditional fare. The crab cake-crusted salmon dish is so good it will have you coming back the following week to enjoy again.

During summertime, Chicago is a fantastic city to drive around in and appreciate the skyline views. During wintertime, be sure to stare directly at the pavement in front of you to avoid that giant pothole you are about to hit. Doh!!
— Mike Florczak

People need to wait until everyone gets out of the bus/train/cab before they try to get into the said vehicle. Come on people!!!

The trains' staple smell nowadays is urine and bad lettuce. What happened?

A snow blower is worth the investment and one of the best inventions out there. Just wish I owned one.
— Debbie Podmore

Living through Chicago winters keep us tough. Only the weak move south.

Cubs fans will potentially root for the White Sox, but Sox fans would NEVER root for the Cubs.

Oprah tickets are the toughest to get in town!

Dating in a building with a doorman adds a whole new dimension to the awkwardness.
